Gynaecology
Gynaecology is concerned with all aspects of women’s reproductive health.
The Gynaecology service offers a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services to women. These include:
- Urogynaecology
This concerns problems of the female urinary and genital tract. As they are close together, there can often be coexistent disorders such as Urinary Incontinence, Recurrent Urinary infections/cystitis or Prolapse. - Cervical screening
Cervical screening is a method of preventing cancer by detecting and treating early abnormalities which, if left untreated, could lead to cancer in a woman´s cervix (the neck of the womb). - Colposcopy
A colposcopy is usually carried out when a regular cervical screening test shows up some abnormal changes in the cells of the cervix. Many women have abnormal smears and this does not mean you have cancer, but that small changes have been found that need further investigation. A Colposcopy will feel similar to having a regular cervical screening test, but allows the colposcopist to see an enlarged 3-D view of the cervix, and find out if treatment is required. - Sexual Health and Reproductive Advice
Clinics are held at a number of convenient locations, providing information and advice on issues such as contraception and sexual health.
Early pregnancy advice Women up to 15 weeks pregnant may attend a clinic if they are experiencing symptoms such as bleeding, pain, or have had previous miscarriages. The clinics will provide assessment and advice on problems of early pregnancy
